The Designers’ Showhouse is an annual grassroots fundraising event that raises much needed support for the agency. Through this signature fundraiser in its 32nd year, the agency is able to continue supporting the community by offering resources to families and child care providers.
The 2012 Designers’ Showhouse event is returning to the Westboro area with a beautiful, colonial style home on Shadow Lane. The home was recently purchased by Josh and Kimberly Svaty.
“3162 Shadow Lane is such a special home that has been cared for well,” said Kimberly Svaty. “We look forward to refreshing the home’s decor and creating a welcoming and family-friendly environment which honors the 86-year history of the house.”
There are a total of 17 design areas to be transformed over a 10-week period. These areas include a completely remodeled kitchen, a library and sitting area open to the upstairs, landscaping and more. Area designers and craftsmen present their design plans to the homeowners to ensure that the home not only showcases the best in interior and landscape design, but also serves the family well.

Group Tours
New in 2012! Guided group tours with entertaining “behind-the-scenes” stories and details were available on Mondays and Tuesdays, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. The tours on Mondays and Tuesdays were available by reservation only.
Groups may enjoy self-guided tours Wednesday through Sunday by reservation.
Last tour starts 30 minutes before closing.
Children under the age of 8 will not be admitted.

Showhouse Boutique
The Showhouse Boutique was open during normal Showhouse hours. A tour ticket was not required to visit the boutique.

Advance tickets can be purchased at the Child Care Aware® of Northeast & North Central Kansas’ Office or at the local distributors listed below. Tickets can also be bought at the front door of the 2012 Designers’ Showhouse when it was open for tour. Advance tickets were $9, $10 at the door. The 2012 Designers’ Showhouse was located at 3162 SW Shadow Lane, Westboro Area, Topeka.
From SW 17th Street and SW Gage Boulevard: Continue east on 17th Street through the SW Gage Boulevard intersection. Turn left (north) onto SW Pembroke Lane. Turn right (east) on SW Shadow Lane. The house is at the intersection on the north side of SW Shadow Lane.
From SW 10th Avenue and SW Macvicar Avenue: Going west on SW 10th Avenue, turn left (south) onto SW Macvicar Avenue. Turn right (west) on SW 12th Street. Turn left (south) on SW Oakley Avenue. Turn right (west) on Shadow Lane and the house will be on the right (north) side of the street.
